Job Posting: Shanghai Media Group looking for English copy editors
Most people in China associate English-language television here with CCTV 9 -- but there are other options. China Media News once worked at Guangzhou Television, which runs the city's Guangzhou English Channel. The GZEC is only the second all-English channel in China, following CCTV 9, and the first regional all-English channel.
Shanghai Media Group (SMG) also runs several English-language programs on Dragon TV. SMG's programs are also international, as the station has strong cooperation in Southeast and Northeast Asia and the Americas.
It has been rumored for several years that SMG has wanted an all-English channel of its own, but is continually rebuffed by the State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television. SARFT is known for its loyalty to China Central Television, which fears an all-English competitor. China Media News can not confirm these rumors, but can confirm that SMG does quality programming from a beautiful, modern building in downtown Shanghai. Responsibilities:
Shanghai Media Group is looking for seasoned, talented native speakers of English with proven television news or feature writing skills, sharp headline writing and can-do attitude. The Copy Editor will be required to do quick write ups on key news or feature stories from reporters, press releases, wire services and other sources for television news broadcasting, ability to be both fast and accurate a must. Responsibilities will also include generating story ideas, contributing to special features, determining style and editing copy to meet established tone and theme requirements for SMG broadcast. Duties could expand based on growth of organizations.
Desired:
Strong news judgment.
Excellent writing and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
3 years'experience in writing, reporting, producing and/or copy editing in international English-language television organizations a plus.
